Carry your burdens with Grace

I had been wanting to do more art pieces that honor my Wailaki heritage. I had decided to create a series of eight pieces in dedication to my grandfather who had passed away over a year ago. This is the first of that series. The concept for this was thought up when I was in the hospital with my fiancé who has been battling Colon Cancer for almost a year now. We have had to battle this foe on our own and only a few people in our lives had been there for us. Others have all but for lack of a better word, abandoned us. We have carried this for a year and we do it, with faith and grace.
The horse is a representation of 'the carrier of burdens', as they are referred to as, 'beast of burdens'. So with that in mind, I created this piece to remind myself and other that no matter what issues we are going through, we must carry them with grace.

Among the Roses

I wanted to work some more with charcoals, plus, do something I guess a little different. This was first sketched out, then rendered with charcoals (obliviously), and the roses were colored with soft pastels.

Last day for Art Market!

Unfortunately we are ending our Art Market season early. Not many wish to dedicate themselves to this event that I believe not only benefits the local Lodge, but helps give the local artist's a place to be associated with. The dedicated vendors though are the best. And they have some serious talent. So if you would like to come out and see the dedicated talent, come on out.

Return To Innocents

Ok, so this may not be the best picture of this piece, but believe me when I say she is a piece I personally love. Hopefully soon I can get a better picture of her up for you to see. She was created with soft pastels.

The Vampiress

I admit it, I love a good vampire story. A little bit bloody, a little bit romantic (not Twilighty romantic...Dracula romantic). So this little gem popped into my head and I  must say, I'm proud of the way she turned out. Done in various charcoal mediums with soft pastels for some added color.

Park Sketch

 Every now and then, my fiancé and I will go to our local parks. He would go take photographs while I would take a pencil, pen, and grayscale markers, to create the lovely scenery around us. These are two examples of them.

The Lady and the Merman

Wow...this was one of my first watercolor paintings. I was actually proud of it. I always saw images of mermaids and sailors or mermaids playing around or sunbathing. I hardly ever saw art pieces of women and mermen. So I thought, why not make one of my own?
